Dr. Patricia Montealegre

International Director, SJD Barcelona Children’s Hospital
The Barcelona Euro HTC Conference is proud to welcome Patricia Montealegre, an
accomplished international healthcare executive whose career spans more than three decades across clinical practice, hospital leadership, health insurance, and international patient services.
Since March 2023, Dr. Montealegre has served as International Director at SJD Barcelona Children’s Hospital, one of Europe’s leading pediatric institutions, and is a member of the hospital’s management board. In this role, she leads global strategy for international patients, institutional partnerships, and cross-border care delivery, strengthening SJD’s position as a trusted destination for highly complex pediatric care worldwide.
In parallel, Dr. Montealegre also serves as Director of the International Patients Department at SJD, overseeing patient experience, international access pathways, and coordination with insurers, governments, and referring providers. Her work reflects a deep commitment to integrated, patient-centered international care models—an approach that closely aligns with the mission of the Building Bridges conference.
Previously, Dr. Montealegre held senior leadership roles across Spain’s private healthcare and insurance sectors. As Barcelona Head Medical Manager at Adeslas, Spain’s largest health insurance provider with more than 40% market share, she played a critical role in aligning clinical quality, cost management, and provider relations at scale.
Her earlier experience includes serving as Regional Medical Director for BUPA–Sanitas Barcelona, and as Medical Director at Dexeus Women’s Health, where she led clinical governance, quality improvement initiatives, and multidisciplinary care delivery models.
Dr. Montealegre brings deep expertise in healthcare quality, accreditation, and system transformation, supported by formal training in Joint Commission International (JCI) accreditation, lean management, and healthcare quality systems. From 2012 to 2017, she also served on the Ethics Committee at Grupo Hospitalario Quirón, contributing to governance, patient rights, and ethical decision-making in complex clinical environments.
Academically, Dr. Montealegre holds a Degree in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Barcelona, along with a Master’s Degree in Hospital Management and executive postgraduate studies at ESADE Business School. Licensed to practice general medicine across Spain and the European Union, she combines clinical credibility with executive insight—making her a highly valued voice on international care delivery, payer–provider collaboration, and the future of cross-border healthcare.
