With a career spanning both the public and private sectors, Dr. Figuerola stands at the intersection of health, tourism, and innovation—helping position Spain as a world leader in international patient care.

As Head of International Business Development at Quirónsalud, Spain’s largest hospital group, she leads initiatives that expand global access to high-quality medical services and strengthen Spain’s role as a trusted destination for health and wellness. Since joining Quirónsalud in 2018, her leadership has been instrumental in forging new partnerships, optimizing patient pathways, and advancing Spain’s competitiveness in global health markets.

Previously, Dr. Figuerola served as Managing Director of Spaincares, the Spanish Health Tourism Cluster, where she unified hospitals, tourism boards, and government agencies under a common strategy for sustainable medical tourism growth. Her earlier experience includes 12 years as General Director of Tourism for the Government of La Rioja, where she guided regional tourism policy, as well as consulting roles at PricewaterhouseCoopers and leadership positions in major Spanish hotel chains such as Barceló Hotels & Resorts and Green Hotels.

A respected international expert in health tourism and tourism economics, Dr. Figuerola is also Convenor of the ISO WG2 Health Tourism Services, helping establish global quality standards for medical travel. She co-founded Thinkeers, a think tank focused on the digital economy, and served as coordinator of the International Area of the Economy & Health Foundation.

​

Her academic achievements are equally impressive: Dr. Figuerola holds a Law Degree from Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, a Master’s in Marketing, a Master’s in Hotel Management, and a PhD in Tourism Economy (Cum Laude) from Nebrija University. She is also a professor of Tourism and Marketing at Nebrija University, ESIC, and Rey Juan Carlos University, and frequently lectures on destination management, emerging markets, and brand strategy.

Fluent in Spanish, English, French, and Italian, and with extensive international experience across Europe and Latin America, Dr. Figuerola brings a truly global perspective to health diplomacy and economic development.
