Joaquim San Nicolás

The Barcelona Euro HTC Conference is honored to welcome Joaquim San Nicolás, an accomplished healthcare executive whose three-decade career has spanned every facet of international health—from clinical operations and network management to digital innovation and strategic partnerships.
Born in Barcelona, Joaquim brings a uniquely European perspective to the challenges and opportunities of global healthcare collaboration. Over the past 30 years, he has served as CEO of a major medical center employing more than 60 physicians, led an international healthcare consultancy, and founded one of Spain’s early e-commerce platforms for healthcare services—demonstrating a lifelong commitment to advancing access, efficiency, and quality in care delivery.
For the past decade, Joaquim has been a key leader at AXA Partners, where he serves as Deputy Head of the International Medical Network for Europe and the Americas. In this role, he oversees a team of 12 local network managers across multiple countries and leads the organization’s cost control and medical audit operations—ensuring clinical quality and financial integrity across AXA’s vast global health network.
His career reflects the evolution of the healthcare ecosystem itself: from hands-on clinical management to digital transformation and now, to international systems leadership that bridges continents.
At the Barcelona Euro HTC Conference, Joaquim San Nicolás will share insights from his years building and leading cross-border medical networks, focusing on how collaboration, trust, and technology can strengthen global healthcare delivery.
“Healthcare today is a global conversation,” Joaquim says. “The key is connecting people, systems, and values—so that quality and care travel as seamlessly as patients do.”
When not advancing healthcare collaboration, Joaquim enjoys time with his two children and watching a good badminton match—reminders, he says, of balance and precision, both essential in life and leadership.
